And maybe it is connected wit definition of "community", what is community and what is society. Is there any diference? Is local comunity based on people from museum area, or bigger area, or is it based on some kind of national community?

How do people of local communities get benefit from museums?
Dr.Malay Dey, University of Jammu, India - 2020/08/05 15:47
Good day from Robben Island Museum, Cape Town. Just a short comment on how museums could engage with local communities as a type of "new normal". I think that the concept of the museum has to change at root level. The museum of the future has to change from being a building filled with collections for exhibition. The museum needs to go to the child in the community and respond to what that child needs from the museum, within the confines of their collected resources. This means changing the very archaic business model. I like Bonita's comments about users and participants as opposed to visitors. So changing at the root, to me, means deconstructing the very colonial management and governance structures of museums and to allow communities to formulate these spaces which are really intended for their use and edification. Thank you

Talking about community, the major problem is how to define the "community", especially when it comes to national scale museums. We have to be carefully targeted every time, to identify whether the community refers to the local society where the museum is situated or the community of reference concerning the/an exhibition or museum activity.

Don’t you think we should pay more attention to Ecomuseums as territorial links with local communities? At the end this is real core of the perspective of opening museums to the territory.
Ecomuseums represent and embody the whole heritage, including the community museums themselves.

Esther - 2020/08/05 15:33
Alongside the panel's illustrations of pandemic-caused adjustments by museums to be more relevant to their communities, let us please also remember that museums must strive for external relevance to both the environmental and societal crises facing the planet and all its life. More than ever, environmental justice and social justice are intimately interrelated.

I want to share that most museums in Pakistan are under government supervision and none of the museums in Pakistan faces any problem during covid 19 and this is shared by Director Archeology during ICOM PAKISTAN webinar on Museum Day. My question is, having museums owned by the government will give them a kind of security?
